Rapid City Journal's Two Cents
Why are Team Rapid City's ads centered around the sports complex, when the sports complex isn't even included in the Libertyland TIF? Why are their branding and messaging seemingly aimed at distracting the public instead of providing clear information? Residents of Rapid City have started to notice this as well, raising the same questions. Libertyland TIF wrong for Rapid City
It wasn’t that long ago that Rapid City voters were signing petitions requesting to vote on the massive $125M Libertyland Tax Increment Financing (TIF) District. Fearing the loss of taxpayer financing for his private enterprise, the developer launched an advertising blitz called “Decline to Sign” to try to convince people not to exercise their freedom to petition their government. It didn’t work. Over 5,000 signatures were gathered — twice the number required, and the vote was scheduled for Jan. 20, 2026.

NE auditor warns of fast statewide growth of TIF use, saying that poses risk to property tax burden
